100 Days of Illustration

Memories are the Best Inspiration

It took me two years to actually dive into a daily project. The commitment and mental effort was so daunting. After months of trying to figure out what to draw, I chose to do 100 days of Pokemon. I grew up with these characters. It was a category I knew I could get excited about each day (because I'll always be a 12-year-old at heart).

At the time, I had just begun learning about Sketch App and, even though I knew Sketch was primarily used for UI design, I thought this project would be a great idea to learn my way around the tool. Each character was illustrated in Sketch – one per day.

The project started a lot more simplistic as I was learning the best techniques to illustrate within Sketch.
(From left to right) Venomoth, Abra, Nidoran, Dodrio, Venonat, Wigglytuff
Tentacruel (center) was so much fun. I have a love for octopus and any time I doodle on something, I inevitably draw one.
I started playing around with some subtle shading in first two weeks or so. While these do look cute, almost like papercraft, I prefer flat illustration.
Out of all the characters I drew, Metapod (far right) might be my favorite. He came out so simple and clean but still detailed – which is exactly what I try to achieve when I design.
